Why is an infant raped?
Why is a woman who is covered from head to toe raped?
Why is an old lady raped?
Do men rape because they are INSECURE that they don’t have the qualities to be loved?
Do men rape because taking someone forcefully gives them a sense of POWER?
Do men rape because they are too weak to control their ANIMAL INSTINCTS?
It’s not that men and children are not raped but today I am sharing stories of three women who suffered at the hands of men.
SUBJECT 1– I am a 19-year-old Dalit girl. I am my family’s Pride. I could not study because going to school was dangerous as I had to cross millet fields. I could have been easily dragged in and raped. I follow all family traditions and I am very good at cooking and doing the household chores. Basically, I am a SUPERSTAR. You were an upper caste boy and used to trouble me. I did not tell anyone because I feared my father’s and brother’s life. One day my deepest fears came true. I was raped and strangulated by you in the millet fields. It has left me PARALYZED and I know I will not live.
“Some blame Me belonging to a lower caste.
Some blame My family.
Did anyone blame You?”
SUBJECT 2– I am a 25-year-old married woman. I am slapped beaten and verbally abused at WILL. I am SEXUALLY ABUSED while my family members pretend to be asleep. I cling to my Mrs. Tag because it gives me one room with a built-in kitchen to live in. The room is shared by my mother-in-law and my children with curtains to provide privacy. You physically force me to have sex with you every night and do not leave me even when I am nine months pregnant. I have three children and have suffered two miscarriages. The doctor says any more pregnancies can be dangerous for my life.
“Some blame My resistance to your advances.
Some blame My non- willingness to perform Marital duties.
Did anyone blame You?”
SUBJECT 3– I am a very happy woman today. You are so handsome and you have asked me out for a date at a wine bar. The cozy bar environs, the music, and your appreciation of my looks made me reach cloud nine. I had more wine than I should have had. I laughed, I cracked jokes and kissed your hands many times. You suggested we take a taxi as it was not right for us to drive drunk. It seemed completely logical to me. The taxi pulled up outside your home. I knew something was not right but you suggested- ‘let’s have some coffee to neutralize the effect of alcohol’ and I went in with you. Once in you FORCED yourself on me. The next morning I just went back to my home. Physical bruises have healed but mental bruises have not.
“Some blamed My trust of you.
Some blamed My use of alcohol.
Did anyone blame You?”
SOME FACTS ABOUT RAPE
1. About 99% of cases of sexual assault go unreported.
2. About 94% of rape cases are committed by someone known to the victim.
3. About 66% of married women experience sexual violence.
4. About 94% of rape cases under the SC/ ST act are pending in the courts.
ALWAYS REMEMBER –
1. Sex without consent is not sex. It is rape.
2. If the woman is drunk just leave her alone. She is not giving you any signals.
3. Don’t consider women as objects of Revenge.
4. Social lessons are not taught by raping women.
5. If you want to kiss or go further just ask.
6. Your masculinity lies in giving women equal opportunities and treating them with love.
7. Sex addiction is treatable. Consult a therapist.
